Low-Cost Counselling
Low-cost counselling service
Our low-cost counselling service provides affordable counselling following bereavement and significant loss. You can receive up to 24 individual counselling sessions, with a contribution towards the cost based on what you can reasonably afford.
Who is this counselling for?
Our low-cost service is for people who live or work in Camden, Islington, the City of London or Westminster. It may be an option if you do not qualify for one of our fully funded counselling pathways or would like the longer period of counselling available through this service.
What is offered?
You can receive up to 24 individual counselling sessions. This gives you time to explore your bereavement or significant loss and other experiences, relationships or changes in your life that may be connected with it. You do not need to know before you start exactly what you want to talk about or how many sessions you will need.
What does it cost?
It costs CCIWBS approximately £50 to provide each counselling session. Although our counsellors give their time voluntarily, there are other costs involved in providing a professional counselling service, including clinical supervision, premises, administration, safeguarding and service management.
We want counselling to remain affordable, so we offer different contribution levels. We do not means-test clients or ask you to provide evidence of your income. Instead, we ask you to consider your circumstances and choose a contribution that you can reasonably afford throughout your counselling.
£50 — Standard rate
If you can afford £50 per session, your contribution approximately covers the cost to CCIWBS of providing your counselling.
£25–£45 — Supported rate
This rate is for people who would find it difficult to contribute the full cost of their counselling. Within this range, choose an amount that feels manageable for you on a weekly basis.
£60 — Supporter rate
If you are able to contribute £60 per session, the additional amount helps us continue offering counselling at a supported rate to people who cannot afford the full cost.
The counselling you receive is the same whichever contribution you choose. We trust clients to choose the level that is appropriate for their circumstances and we will discuss your ongoing contribution with you in an initial phone call.
Before counselling begins, you will have an assessment appointment. There is a £25 assessment fee, payable in advance.
.
How do I get referred?
You can refer yourself directly to CCIWBS for our low-cost counselling service.
What happens after I refer myself?
We review every referral and, where appropriate, will arrange an assessment. This gives us an opportunity to understand what has brought you to counselling, consider whether the service is appropriate for you and answer any questions you have.
We will also talk with you about your availability and the contribution you can make towards your sessions. This is a conversation about finding an amount that is manageable for you, not a financial assessment.
If the low-cost service is appropriate, we will explain the next steps and match you with a counsellor when a suitable space becomes available.
If another counselling pathway or another type of support would be more appropriate, we will discuss this with you.
