Counselling with us
Counselling with us
Choosing to start counselling is a personal decision, and it can be helpful to know something about the service before deciding whether to take that step.
We want you to understand what counselling is, how we work, who our counsellors are and what counselling may cost, so that you can decide whether CCIWBS feels like the right service for you.
What is counselling?
Counselling offers confidential time to talk with someone who is trained to listen and explore experiences with you. A counsellor does not tell you how you should feel or what you should do, but works alongside you with what is important to you.
There is no particular way you are expected to talk about your bereavement or significant loss.
How we offer counselling
We offer individual and group counselling, with sessions taking place in person and, for some services, remotely by video or telephone.
Counselling takes place at a regular time and within an agreed number of sessions. Find out more about the different ways we offer counselling and what to expect when attending sessions.
Our counsellors
More than 40 counsellors give their time to CCIWBS voluntarily. Our team includes qualified counsellors and counsellors completing the later stages of their professional training under supervision.
All our counsellors are carefully selected, receive regular clinical supervision and share a particular interest in working with bereavement and significant loss.

Cost of counselling
Some of our counselling is fully funded, while our low-cost counselling service asks clients to contribute towards the cost.
Although most of our counsellors volunteer their time, providing professional counselling involves other costs, including clinical supervision, premises, assessment, administration, safeguarding and service management. Our different sources of funding help us keep counselling as affordable and accessible as possible.
