Cost of Counselling

Professional bereavement counselling, made affordable

We want cost to be as little of a barrier as possible to accessing bereavement counselling. Some of our counselling is fully funded, while our low-cost service asks clients to contribute towards the cost.

Although most of our counsellors give their time voluntarily, providing a safe, professional counselling service has significant costs. A counselling session is supported by much more than the time that a counsellor and client spend together.

What does the cost of counselling support?

Client contributions, grants, donations and other funding help us meet the costs of running the service. These include our counselling premises, clinical supervision, counsellor training and professional development, assessment and matching, administration, safeguarding, service management, insurance and the systems needed to provide confidential counselling safely.

Our volunteer counsellors make it possible for us to provide counselling at a much lower cost than would otherwise be possible. Their time is an important contribution to the service, but it does not remove the wider costs involved in providing professional counselling.

What will I pay?

What you pay depends on the counselling pathway available to you.

Some counselling is fully funded through our public contracts and is provided at no cost to the client. Eligibility depends on factors including where you live and where your GP is registered.

Our low-cost counselling service is available to people who live or work in Camden, Islington, the City of London or Westminster. We ask clients to contribute £25–£60 per session, depending on what they can afford. There is also a £25 assessment fee, payable in advance.

We also have a limited number of fully funded counselling places supported by grants and donations for people who cannot afford to contribute towards counselling. These places offer up to 10 sessions at no cost, but availability depends on the funding we have at the time.

If you are worried about the cost

Please do not assume that counselling with us is unaffordable before finding out what options may be available to you.

Our different sources of funding, together with the time given by our volunteer counsellors, help us make professional bereavement counselling accessible to people on a range of incomes.
