Referrals
Step 1 - Can I make a professional referral?
You can refer someone if they:
-
live in Camden, or are registered with a GP in Camden;
-
are seeking counselling following a bereavement; and
-
meet our general referral criteria below.

Step 2 - Does the person meet our general referral criteria?
Other counselling and access
We are unable to accept a referral where the person:
-
is currently receiving counselling through another service; or
-
lives in a care home and is unable to access our service autonomously.
Current clinical needs
CCIWBS provides planned, time-limited bereavement counselling. We are not a crisis service and cannot provide the intensive or specialist support that may be needed by people with complex or currently unstable needs.
We are unable to accept a referral where the person:
-
is currently experiencing psychosis;
-
is street homeless, at immediate risk of homelessness or experiencing significant housing instability;
-
has drug or alcohol use that is significantly affecting their ability to manage everyday life;
-
has active suicidal plans or intent requiring urgent intervention or crisis support;
-
has attempted suicide within the previous six months; or
-
has been admitted to a crisis house or inpatient mental health service within the previous six months.
Where there has been psychosis, housing instability or problematic drug or alcohol use, the person needs to have been stable for at least six months at the time of referral.
If you are unsure whether someone meets our referral criteria, please email admin@cciwbs.org.uk before referring.

Step 3 - What pathway is available?
Camden — NHS Talking Therapies
For people who live in Camden or are registered with a Camden GP.
-
Up to 8 individual counselling sessions
-
No cost to the client
-
Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression (PCE-CfD), a counselling approach offered within NHS Talking Therapies and included in NICE guidance
-
Delivered by a qualified senior counsellor trained in PCE-CfD
There are additional suitability considerations where someone has more complex mental health needs, including bipolar disorder, psychotic illness, eating disorders or personality disorder.
If you are unsure whether the Camden pathway is appropriate, please email us at referrals@cciwbs.org.uk before referring.
Step 4 - Make a referral
Please make sure that the person knows they are being referred to CCIWBS and has agreed to the referral. Every referral is reviewed and assessed before counselling is offered. We may contact you if we need further information to determine whether our service is appropriate.
If you have any questions about eligibility or whether a referral is appropriate, please email referrals@cciwbs.org.uk.
